Kia Canada has announced the beginning of online reservations for the 2024 Kia EV9 starting July 31, 2023. This marks the arrival of Kia’s first fully electric three-row SUV, representing a significant step in the brand’s lineup and the broader automotive market.
Design and Styling
The 2024 Kia EV9, a pioneer in the electric vehicle (EV) segment, exhibits a bold and sophisticated design. Measuring 5,015mm in length with a 3,100mm wheelbase, it offers a spacious interior with up to 2,314L of cargo space. The exterior features Kia’s iconic Tiger Face, LED headlights, and a Star Map LED animated grille. The vehicle’s clean lines are complemented by flush door handles and a choice of 19 to 21-inch wheels. The GT-Line package adds unique design elements such as 21-inch alloy wheels and a distinct bumper design.
Interior Comfort and Technology
Inside, the EV9 introduces the “Ten Must-Have Items” design philosophy, focusing on sustainable materials like non-leather polyurethane surfaces and partially recycled fabrics. The cabin is characterized by reductionism, featuring hidden-until-lit haptic switches and a dual-level floating center console. Technology includes an optional head-up display, a digital rearview mirror, and a Meridian audio system. Comfort is emphasized in every seat, with features like power-operated leg rests and tri-zone HVAC. The vehicle offers both six- and seven-seat configurations.
Performance and Powertrain
The EV9 is built on the E-GMP platform and utilizes fourth-generation battery technology. It will be available in Canada with a 99.8-kWh battery, offering two motor configurations: a single-motor with a 480 km range and a dual-motor producing 283 kW (379 hp). Its 800V electrical architecture supports ultrafast charging, allowing a 10 to 80 percent charge in under 25 minutes. Additionally, the EV9 boasts a towing capacity of up to 5,000 lbs and includes various terrain modes.
Advanced Technologies and Safety
Kia’s EV9 is equipped with advanced technologies like the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), over-the-air updates, and a variety of driver assistance systems. ADAS features include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, and Smart Cruise Control. The vehicle also incorporates an Integrated Charging Control Unit for V2L functionality and a digital key system.
The 2024 Kia EV9, as Kia Canada’s flagship electric SUV, offers a blend of advanced technology, thoughtful design, and sustainable practices. Set to arrive in Canada by the end of 2023, the EV9 promises a comprehensive package of performance, comfort, and safety, aiming to set a new standard in the electric vehicle market. Pricing details are expected to be announced closer to the launch date.
