Kia had an absolutely amazing year in 2021. The Korean automaker registered 79,198 units last year, marking a 9.3% increase year-over-year and setting a new sales record for the brand. Kia also registered its best-ever monthly sales total in 2021 in June when it sold over 8,800 units.
Not one Kia model is responsible for the success. It is actually a combination of multiple Kia vehicles outselling their competitors and standing out in their respective segments. The most popular Kia vehicle last year was the Kia Seltos which had 14,436 sales. It was followed by the Kia Forte which registered 13,190 units sold while the Kia Sportage had 11,837 units sold.
Kia also had a great year with its electric vehicles, registering 4,720 units across the board. The Kia Soul EV had an increase of 24% over 2020 in terms of sales, and the Kia Niro EV and Kia Niro PHEV saw their sales increase by 152% and 21% respectively. Overall, it was an incredible year for Kia which also had increases in its certified pre-owned vehicles as well.
“Our success in 2021 can be attributed to our industry leading design, safety and technology, as well as our dedicated dealer network, who remained agile in servicing our customers throughout another pandemic year,” says Elias El-Achhab, Chief Operating Officer at Kia Canada. “As we look forward to 2022, consumer demand remains exceptionally high, leaving us optimistic for the year ahead with new and exciting models like the highly anticipated Kia EV6, set to arrive in dealerships early next year.”
Last but not least, Kia took home multiple awards last year including three AutoTrader.ca awards, two AJAC category wins for the Kia K5 sedan and Kia Telluride SUV, and Kia was named the number one mass-market friend in the J.D. Power 2021 Vehicle Dependability Study.
